As a general rule fall is the best time for Garden Tilling. We recommend rototilling twice a year, Spring after the thaw and fall before the first hard frost.. Each time you rototill you should add organic matters such as shredded leaves or peat moss. When composts are added and decompose they add needed nutrients back into the soil. These added nutrients help build strong healthy plant roots. Tilling allows soil to have better air circulation and helps with the decomposition of any added organic matters. Fall temperatures and soil moisture help with the decomposition of added compost. Fall tilling also helps to prevent the growth of new weeds in the spring. Request A Quote |
All the leaves and clippings leftover from the fall cleanup should be tilled back into the garden soil. Doing this will add both organic material and nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus back into the soil. Fall is a good time to add peat moss and/or plant green manure (clover, barley, winter rye and buckwheat). This will allow soil amendments to break down and becoming available to the plants. Soil amendments are the materials you add to the soil to modify the pH level, provide specific nutrients to the soil. |
